For decades, students have been studying the same tired texts, with 76% reading An Inspector Calls by JB Priestley for their modern text and 93% tackling either A Christmas Carol or The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde for their 19th century novel.
But what's even more disturbing is the scarcity of female authors on the syllabus – only 5% of students study a work by a woman.
