Europe’s Space Ambition: A Decade of Catch-Up?

To succeed, European leaders will need to put aside petty squabbles over funding and resources and work towards a unified vision. In an era where private companies are driving innovation in space exploration, it’s no longer enough for Europe to simply play catch-up.
Macron’s call is a much-needed wake-up call for the continent’s leaders – but it’s only the first step in a long journey. As the ESA’s chief Josef Aschbacher put it: “Will we be passengers or pilots?” The answer lies not just in Paris, but in the willingness of European leaders to invest in their own ambitions and take charge of their space program.
