Europe’s AI Ambition: A Gamble on Gigafactories

Funding the Ambition

Commission executive vice-president Henna Virkkunen has hailed this moment as a milestone, stating that access to raw computing power within AI gigafactories is crucial for Europe. While investing in tech capabilities is essential, the real question is whether this investment will yield returns.

The EU’s Digital Services Act and Digital Market Act aim to guide new technology development. However, history shows that regulations can be circumvented or watered down. Can we trust the Commission to enforce these standards?
